Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens also known as Queen Latifah is an American musician and rapper. The work of Queen Latifah on television, film as well as music has earned her several awards. They include an Golden Globe Award two Screen Actors Guild Awards Two Image Awards A Grammy Award In addition, she has six Grammy Nominations Emmy Award Nomination and an Academy Award. Queen Latifah is the daughter of the Newark New Jersey schoolteacher and a Newark New Jersey police officer Lancelot Owens Senior, was born and raised within Newark New Jersey. Latifah's parents divorced when she was 10 years old. Latifah, who was born and was raised in Newark New Jersey attended Catholic schools in Newark. In her early twenties when her mother gave Latifah the name of a stage Latifah which translates to delicate and kind in Arabic. Latifah, who was 5'10" tall power forward for her high school team was always a tall girl. She sang the song home from The Wiz at a high-school play. Latifah became a beatboxer for the Ladies Fresh rap band. Latifah was among the founding members of the model of the Flavor Unit which at that time consisted of MCs who were grouped around producer DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka the DJ Mark the 40 King created an audition for the hip-hop Princess of the Posse by Queen Latifah. The song was sent to the host of Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music who was working for Latifah during that time was awed by her track. The song was released in 1988. Wrath of My Madness as Latifah's first single.
