Dana Elaine Owens - better than the general public by the name of Queen Latifah is an American performer, actress, and singer. Queen Latifah is an American actress, rapper and performer. Queen Latifah is the daughter of Newark New Jersey native. Her parents were Lancelot Sr. who was a policeman, as well as Rita, a instructor at Irvington High School. Latifah's parents separated when she was just 10 years old. Latifah attended a Catholic school and was educated within Newark New Jersey. She was a member of in the Baptist church. The stage name Latifah meaning delicate and very compassionate in Arabic was given to her by her aunt when she was only eight. Latifah is a 5'10" tall forward on the team at her high school, was always a tall girl. The song she sang was home from The Wiz at a performance in high school. Latifah was the first to begin beatboxing for Ladies Fresh. Latifah was a part of the Flavor Unit's first group that included a variety of MCs, as well as DJ Mark 45 King. Mark James (aka DJ Mark the 45King) recorded a demo for Queen Latifah rap Princess of the Posse. The recorded was sent to Yo! MTV Raps Fab 5 Freddy. The track caught the attention to Tommy Boy Music employee Dante Ross who has signed Latifah and released her first single Wrath of My Madness.
