Queen Latifah is the daughter of Newark New Jersey native. Her parents were Lancelot Sr. who was a policeman, as well as Rita, a instructor at Irvington High School. Latifah's parents separated when she was just 10 years old. Latifah attended a Catholic school and was educated within Newark New Jersey. She was a member of in the Baptist church. The stage name Latifah meaning delicate and very compassionate in Arabic was given to her by her aunt when she was only eight. Latifah is a 5'10" tall forward on the team at her high school, was always a tall girl. The song she sang was home from The Wiz at a performance in high school.
