Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens is an American artist and rapper, best known under her stage name, Queen Latifah. Queen Latifah is an American actor, rapper as well as a singer. Queen Latifah is a Newark New Jersey native. Her parents are Lancelot Sr. who was a policeman, and Rita who was a educator at Irvington High School. The couple divorced when Latifah was age of ten. Latifah grew up in the Baptist religion and went to Catholic school in Newark New Jersey. In her early twenties when her mother gave her the stage name Latifah that means delicate and kind in Arabic. Latifah is an extremely tall girl of 5'10 inches who played on the high school basketball squad. The number she sang was Home from the musical The Wiz in a high school production. Latifah was a member of the Ladies Fresh, a rap group which launched her beatboxing career. Latifah was a part of the Flavor Unit's first group, which included a variety of MCs, as well as producer DJ Mark 45 King. Mark James aka the DJ Mark the 40 King, created an audition for the rap Princess of the Posse by Queen Latifah. Then he gave it to Yo! MTV Raps Fab 5 Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music who was working for Latifah during that time, was impressed by her song. In 1988, she dropped Wrath of My Madness as the first single by Latifah.
