Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens, better known as Queen Latifah in the US, is a performer and actress. Queen Latifah is an American actress, rapper and singer. Queen Latifah's parents are Lancelot as well as Rita Owens. Both were Police officers. Rita was a Newark New Jersey teacher, who was a teacher the class at Irvington High School. The couple divorced when Latifah reached the age of ten. Latifah attended a Catholic school, and she was educated within Newark New Jersey. She was a member of the Baptist church. At the age of 8 Her cousin gifted Latifah the name of a stage Latifah, which means tender and gentle in Arabic. Always tall, her height of 5'10 inches Latifah was a power forward for her basketball team in high school. The play she played in her high school, Latifah performed "Home" from The Wiz. Latifah was part of the Ladies Fresh, a rap group that launched her beatboxing career. Latifah used to be a member of the Flavor Unit - a group of rappers who were gathered around the producer, DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka DJ Mark the 45 King, recorded an unreleased version of Queen Latifah's rap Princess of the Posse. He then gave it to Yo! MTV Raps Fab 5 Freddy. Dante Ross, an employee of Tommy Boy Music who heard the song and signed Latifah in 1988 to release her first single Wrath of My Madness.
